The people and the club are super nice; I did not stay for the dinner
and party on Saturday as we were invited to dinner by friends in
Nevada City. First day was probably pretty typical; they have fixed
marks and they expect wind from the dam (or thereabouts...). We had
four races with varying degrees of shifts and strength. We might have
had 10kn in puffs in the third race. Second day the wind was coming
from the opposite direction in the morning. By the time we started
(downwind...don't get to do that very often...) the wind had
basically
died completely. We drifted around the course with puffs here and
there to get us around. Very hard and very hot. Second race was
similar but by the time we finished, the "regular" wind had settled
in
so we asked the race committee to give us another start, which they
did. This last race cooled us off a bit and was fun. I think it would
be a good event to add to the GP schedule but in addition not instead
of Huntington Lake. It's pretty centrally located (for people from
Tahoe and Sacramento) and the camping around the lake was fun. Most
importantly my wife had fun so there is a good chance we'll do it
again.
