We did have great racing, the final standings (except for Emilio who was just brilliant) changed during the last quarter mile of the 7th race as four boats all crossed in bang-bang-bang-bang fashion after a great race that Jim Christopher won and Buff and Emilio did not know who beat who that race. Sat was relatively "steady" ** with wind from the West (I think it was west, from the dam anyway). Sunday the "wind" (such as it was) was from the East, most of the day, then the Westerly filled in for most of the last race and we had good hiking for spurts, lots of shifts and in the end, Emilio rounded the weather mark first again, but he was tracked down by Jim and Buff with Rich Leland close, while I was off to the right looking for clear air and help from the south side...it almost worked until one last puff brought the three of them roaring down as we converged at the last mark before a 30 yard reach to the finish, I got shut out the back for 4th. As usual, the best part was being with all the Laser sailors, which I personally have missed the past few years. The only tragic thing that happened was that, despite trying very hard, Steve did not win the Car Wash stuff in the auction! As for putting it on the list ** : I did overhear a local guy and a first timer talking on Sunday morning, the first timer asked the local about how he thought the wind was on Saturday and how it would be Sunday. When the local guy said he had NEVER seen the wind as STEADY as it was on Saturday, the first timer's comment was "I guess I will have to change my level of expectations". Sunday would have been perfect but tricky sailing if we started at 1PM rather than 11. It is certainly not Huntington, but perhaps it should be tried out by more Laser sailors for the "Huntington Replacement Weekend" (July 11-12 I think) to see how if would be something we should add. It is great for the Bay area sailors, the Sacramento sailors and the Tahoe sailors to all meet part way. Jim Christopher came all the way from Humboldt and he was explaining how he got there and how long it took...the music was a little loud, but I think he left the last weekend in May and made it in plenty of time....I might have gotten that wrong, it could have been the music or the beers after sailing in the heat all day.
